Check out messages and special offers from our sponsors! We'd like to make a special shout out to the businesses along Ft. Union Blvd in Cottonwood Heights. They are extremely gracious hosts and sacrifice a lot on race day. Make sure when you visit any of the businesses along the course to tell them thank you for supporting REVEL Big Cottonwood!
Blog
To All REVEL Big Cottonwood Race Participants,
Welcome to Cottonwood Heights and the beautiful Wasatch Mountains that are the backdrop of our community. Your experience here is sure to be among the most unique of all races you have run. Not only is the setting stunningly beautiful, but the race is designed to help you achieve a personal best – it is virtually all downhill!!!
The marathon begins at an elevation of 9,700 feet and ends at the finish line in Cottonwood Heights, an elevation of about 4,450 feet. That is a vertical drop of 5,250 feet. But you will not likely notice as you will be distracted by the beauty of the course.
Our city slogan is “City Between the Canyons” as we are flanked by Big Cottonwood Canyon on the north and Little Cottonwood Canyon on the South. We are perfectly situated for excellent access to recreation, transportation, and education.
Created as a city in 2005, Cottonwood Heights has quickly earned a reputation as a progressive community and a very desirable place to live. We are proud sponsors of the REVEL Big Cottonwood Marathon and Half as it provides us an opportunity to share the beauty and uniqueness of our thriving community. We hope you will take the time to explore our restaurants, stores and business establishments both before and after the race.
We express appreciation, in particular, to the businesses along Fort Union Boulevard (the main thoroughfare you will traverse through the city), who have made significant accommodations for this race. We also thank our citizens who will be temporarily inconvenienced due to detours in their Saturday morning travels to facilitate the race course.
We welcome to our vibrant city the thousands of runners along with their family and friends. This is a great event and we hope you enjoy your participation so much you will consider returning not only for future races, but to enjoy the amenities our city and area have to offer.
Sincerely,
Kelvyn H. Cullimore Jr.
Mayor

Expo & Packet Pick-Up
The REVEL Big Cottonwood Expo & Packet Pick-Up is on Friday, Sept 8 from 10am to 8pm at Sport City at 757 W 11400 S, Draper. All parking is free. Check out the many vendors and purchase your Official Race Merchandise!
A photo ID is required to pick up your race bag. We will allow individuals to pick up someone else's bag, but will require a digital or hardcopy of the person's ID and a written note or text authorizing them to do so. Unless you have pre-purchased Race Day Packet Pick-Up, bag and shirt pickup will not be available the morning of the race.
Race Day Parking & Busing
Because REVEL Big Cottonwood is a point-to-point route, we will bus you from the finish line to the start line. The cost of busing is free. You do not need to reserve a spot on the bus. Your bib is your ticket to board a bus.
Due to road closures and participant safety all runners must take the buses the morning of the race. You may not park or be dropped off at the start lines.
All participants will park in the lots and parking garages directly to the south of the finish line. Parking is limited, so please carpool if possible. The best way to arrive is by using I-215 and taking the Union Park Avenue exit south. The best address for parking is 7000S Union Park Avenue, Cottonwood Heights, UT 84047.
Full and half marathon participants will board buses in two separate locations. Full marathon buses will load from the corner of 1300 East and Park Centre Drive near Denny's and will depart between 4:00 and 5:00 AM.
Half marathon buses will load from the NW corner of 1300 East and Fort Union Boulevard across from Maverik. They will depart between 4:00 and 5:30 AM. Please arrive on time and make sure to board the correct bus.
Course Information
Aid Stations
The Aid Stations will be equipped with water, Lemon Lime Powerade, Restrooms, and basic medical supplies. In addition some aid stations will include Gu Energy Gels, fruit, and medical personnel (see aid station map below). **Any personal belongings dropped on the course will be donated to charity.**
The marathon features thirteen (13) on-course Aid Stations to help you along the way. Mile locations for the Marathon Aid Stations are: Mile 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 20.5, 21.5, 23.5, 25 along with the Start and Finish Lines.
The half marathon features six (6) Aid Stations to help you along the way. Mile locations for the Half Marathon Aid Station are: Mile 3, 4.5, 6, 8, 10.5, 12 along with the Start and Finish Lines.
Bag Drop
You will receive a race bag when you pick up your packet at the expo. This bag is for you to take to the starting area. A number that matches your race bib will be attached to your race bag. This is to identify your bag at the finish area after the race, and you will need your bib to prove ownership of your bag when you pick it up. Please carry any belongings to the starting area in this bag, as opposed to any other personal bags, which cannot be identified by your race number. Bags must be placed in the bag trucks at the starting areas at least 15 minutes prior to the race start.
**Any personal belongings dropped at aid stations or anywhere along the course will be donated to charity.**
Timing and Bibs
The races will be chip-timed using timing tags adhered to the back of your bib. Your time will begin when you cross the starting line and stop when you cross the finish line. Overall prize winners (top 3 in each race) will be determined by gun time, not chip time. Please do not tamper with the timing chips, as they cannot be replaced once linked to your bib number.
Because the timing tag is adhered to the back of your race bib, it is important that you do not cover your bib with clothing or other objects that may interfere with the tag reader when you are crossing the start and finish lines. Furthermore, in order to ensure that race volunteers, officials, and photographers can properly identify you, you must wear your bib on the front of your person in an unobstructed position. If the photographers along the course cannot see your bib number, we will have no way to get your photos to you.
