  • Race Director - Event Operations

    Brooksee is a fast-growing endurance event company committed to elevating the event experience for endurance athletes. We own and operate the REVEL Race Series, Portland Marathon, Mesa Marathon, Las Vegas Marathon, and the newly introduced Phoenix Marathon.

    As the Race Director, you will oversee the planning, staffing, and execution of multiple large-scale race events each year. This is a leadership role responsible for managing budgets, developing standard operating procedures, building and leading event teams, and ensuring the highest level of operational excellence across all races. You will work closely with internal departments, contractors, vendors, and community partners to deliver world-class events for athletes, spectators, and stakeholders.

    The Race Director position is essential to ensuring that every operational and strategic element of race production across the organization is effectively planned, coordinated, and executed. The Race Director will be responsible for leading and managing race operations throughout the event lifecycle, including but not limited to: developing and implementing standard operating procedures, staffing and training event teams, budget creation and oversight, securing contractors and service providers, sourcing and securing equipment and vehicle rentals, coordinating with stakeholders and community partners, and ensuring consistent operational excellence across all events.

    This position is ideal for someone with a strong background in large-scale event production, sports and endurance event operations, or complex logistics management who thrives in a leadership role within a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

    Travel to race locations during race weeks is required and includes days leading to and following the race day. Current race calendar is outlined below:

    • Salt Lake City, UT – REVEL Big Cottonwood – September 10-14, 2025
    • Portland, OR – Portland Marathon – October 1-6, 2025
    • Las Vegas, NV – Las Vegas Marathon – October 20-27, 2025
    • Redlands, CA – REVEL Big Bear – November 5-9, 2025
    • Phoenix, AZ – Phoenix Marathon – December 8-14, 2025
    • Mesa, AZ – Mesa Marathon – February 11-15, 2026
    • Las Vegas, NV – REVEL Mt Charleston – March 25-29, 2026

    Key Responsibilities

    Pre-Race Planning & Coordination

    • Develop and implement standard operating procedures for all race operations.
    • Create venue layouts, including start/finish areas and on-course navigation.
    • Build budgets across multiple events and monitor expenses to ensure financial alignment.
    • Recruit, hire, and train race staff, crew leads, and contracted personnel.
    • Source and secure service providers, including medical services, announcers, security, and production vendors.
    • Work with permitting agencies, city officials, and community partners to ensure all operational plans and event activities comply with permit conditions while fostering positive and collaborative relationships.
    • Arrange vehicle and equipment rentals for efficient race execution.
    • Oversee operational timelines to ensure all deadlines are met.

    Race Week Leadership

    • Lead on-site teams across all race areas, ensuring alignment with event plans and safety standards.
    • Oversee venue and course setup, including start/finish lines, aid stations, signage, and infrastructure.
    • Manage vendor load-in, on-site operations, and event-day execution.
    • Monitor race day activities in real time, addressing issues and making adjustments as needed.
    • Serve as the primary decision-maker for assigned operational matters throughout race week.

    Post-Race Evaluation

    • Direct teardown and load-out of all venues and course assets.
    • Oversee vendor settlements and final budget reconciliation.
    • Conduct post-race debriefs with staff, race crew, contractors, and stakeholders.
    • Review operational performance data and participant feedback to identify improvements.
    • Update SOPs and operational plans based on lessons learned.

    Qualifications

    • Proven leadership experience in large-scale event production, preferably in endurance sports.
    • Strong budget management and financial planning skills.
    • Exceptional organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
    • Skilled in team building, training, and performance management.
    • Excellent communication skills across in-person, phone, email, and public forums.
    • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing conditions.
    • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Calendar, Drive).
    • Ability to travel frequently and work long hours during event weeks.
    • Background or passion for endurance sports strongly preferred.
    • Ability to routinely lift, carry, and move materials weighing 50 pounds is required.
    • Must be currently certified or willing to obtain forklift certification.

    Location

    • Pleasant Grove, UT with an in-office/hybrid schedule

    Compensation

    • Starting salary at $70,000 - Prior experience will be taken into consideration during salary negotiation.
