Date: March 1, 2025 Participant: Kim Kapinos #2413 Race: 2025 VR Zion Half Marathon Distance: 13.1 miles Weather: Cool. Perfect running conditions, except for the 21 mph head wind. Partly cloudy Course: Beautiful views of Cable Mountain as runners entered the finish. Steady uphill with a few big climbs, with a net elevation gain of nearly 500 feet.

Steady and Spectacular: Kim's Consistent Half Marathon Performance Kim tackled the 2025 Vacation Races | Zion half marathon with impressive consistency. That steady pacing resulted in a finish time of 1:40:59, maintaining an average pace of 7:42 minutes per mile. Kim started strong, clocking a 7:19 minute per mile pace in the first mile. Despite pace variations, they maintained a top-tier performance, placing 20th overall out of 1404 participants, and 5th in their gender category. Kim's performance showcased notable highlights in the initial splits, especially holding the third position in gender at the 2-mile mark. While a slight pacing decline appeared from mile 9 onwards, Kim admirably regained composure in the final mile, completing it at a commendable 7:42 pace. Kim’s ability to adapt to pacing variations and maintain an overall consistent performance is a tremendous foundation for future races. There’s an opportunity to refine pacing strategy throughout the middle portion for an even stronger finish.
