Date: March 1, 2025 Participant: Alan Squyres #1270 Race: 2025 VR Zion Half Marathon Distance: 13.1 miles Weather: Cool. Perfect running conditions, except for the 21 mph head wind. Partly cloudy Course: Beautiful views of Cable Mountain as runners entered the finish. Steady uphill with a few big climbs, with a net elevation gain of nearly 500 feet.

A Steady Pace to the Finish Line Alan kept a sharp, consistent pace in the 2025 Vacation Races at Zion Half Marathon. His overall time was 1:29:51 with an average pace of 6:51 min/mile. He began strong with a first mile at 6:34, progressively holding his position in the top 5 throughout the race duration. Notably, his fastest mile was the second, clocking in at a commendable 6:28 min/mile. Alan demonstrated great consistency with his pacing, never straying far from his target. His placement remained consistently robust, with strategic shifts from 5th in the first mile to confidently holding 3rd place from mile 3 through mile 8. Despite a minor slowdown at mile 11, he finished in 5th overall among 1404 participants, which is an impressive feat on its own. One area Alan might explore is maintaining his early-race pace through the later miles, especially targeting split times in the latter half. Keep it up, Alan!
