Date: March 1, 2025 Participant: Nicholas Vlasnik #1514 Race: 2025 VR Zion Half Marathon Distance: 13.1 miles Weather: Cool. Perfect running conditions, except for the 21 mph head wind. Partly cloudy Course: Beautiful views of Cable Mountain as runners entered the finish. Steady uphill with a few big climbs, with a net elevation gain of nearly 500 feet.

Steady Progress with a Strong Finish! Nicholas started off with consistent pacing, clocking the first mile at 11:23 per mile. He maintained a steady rhythm throughout, with a slight dip in performance between miles 8 and 11, pacing between 12:16 and 13:13 per mile. Despite this mid-race deceleration, Nicholas managed to tighten the reins and finished strong with a final mile at 12:27 per mile. Overall, he completed the Half Marathon with an average pace of 12:04 minutes per mile. Notably, Nicholas showed remarkable endurance by improving his position throughout the race. Starting at 792nd place overall, he successfully climbed to 626th by the end. In his age group (M25-29), he moved from 69th to 61st. The progress suggests there’s potential in further refining race strategy to maintain steadier pacing mid-race.
