Date: March 1, 2025 Participant: Griffin Pumilia #2012 Race: 2025 VR Zion Half Marathon Distance: 13.1 miles Weather: Cool. Perfect running conditions, except for the 21 mph head wind. Partly cloudy Course: Beautiful views of Cable Mountain as runners entered the finish. Steady uphill with a few big climbs, with a net elevation gain of nearly 500 feet.

Steadfast and Swift: A Remarkable Finish Griffin hit the ground running at the 2025 Vacation Races | Zion Half Marathon. Maintaining an impressive average pace of 6:37 min/mile, Griffin consistently powered through each mile, starting with a 6:51 min/mile pace and progressively increasing his tempo. By mile 6, he was in the top five overall, and come mile 10, he secured the third position. His most impressive mile split was the 13th mile at 6:09 min/mile, vaulting him into first place overall; truly a testament to tenacity and focus. Griffin finished the race in 1:26:51, placing first among 1404 participants and clinching the top spot in his age division. His strategic pacing and resilience are commendable. Staying consistent in the middle portions was crucial, yet nothing quite matched the sprint finish he delivered in the final stretch. A superb performance, indeed! For future races, maintaining an even pace in earlier miles could help maximize late-race speed. Well done, Griffin!
