Parking & Busing

Because REVEL Mt Charleston is a point-to-point route, we will bus you from the finish line to the start line. Your bib is your ticket to board a bus. Due to road closures and participant safety all runners must take the buses the morning of the race. You may not park or be dropped off at the start lines.

Race parking is available in designated lots. To access race day parking please utilize the following addresses: Parking Area 1 (6430 Sky Pointe Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89131 Parking Area 2 (7951 Deer Springs Way Las Vegas, NV 89131). All designated parking is within walking distance of the finish line. Full and half marathon participants will board buses in two separate locations. Full marathon buses will load on N Buffalo Drive and will depart from 4:00-5:00 AM. Half marathon buses will load on Deer Springs Way and will depart from 4:30-5:30 AM. Please arrive on time and make sure you board the correct bus.

Aid Stations

The Aid Stations will be equipped with water, Lemon Lime electrolytes, restrooms and basic medical supplies. In addition some aid stations will include Gu Energy Gels (Chocolate/Vanilla - caffeine & Lemon Sublime/Mandarin Orange – no caffeine), candy, and medical personnel (see aid station map below). **Any personal belongings dropped at aid stations or anywhere along the course will be donated to charity.**

Bag Drop

You will receive a race bag when you pick up your packet at the expo. This bag is for you to take to the starting areas. A number that matches your race bib will be attached to your race bag. This is to identify your bag at the finish area after the race, and you will need your bib to prove ownership of your bag when you pick it up. Please carry any belongings to the starting area in this bag, as opposed to any other personal bags, which cannot be identified by your race number. Bags must be placed in the bag trucks at the starting areas at least 15 minutes prior to the race start.

**Any personal belongings dropped at aid stations or anywhere along the course will be donated to charity.**

Timing & Bibs

The races will be chip-timed using timing tags adhered to the back of your bib. Your time will begin when you cross the starting line and stop when you cross the finish line. Overall prize winners (top 3 in each race) will be determined by gun time, not chip time. Please do not tamper with the timing chips, as they cannot be replaced once linked to your bib number.

Because the timing tag is adhered to the back of your race bib, it is important that you do not cover your bib with clothing or other objects that may interfere with the tag reader when you are crossing the start and finish lines. Furthermore, in order to ensure that race volunteers, officials, and photographers can properly identify you, you must wear your bib on the front of your person in an unobstructed position. If the photographers along the course cannot see your bib number, we will have no way to get your photos to you.

Finish Line Festivities

Once you cross the finish line, stick around and enjoy the exciting atmosphere at the finish. Runners will be greeted with some great food as you celebrate your achievement with friends and family. Check out the vendor booths, get a photo in front of our beautiful backdrops, listen to some great music, give a hand to the rest of the runners coming in, and attend the awards ceremonies to congratulate the winners.

DOMS and Downhill Courses

Three words describe every one of REVEL’s marathon and half-marathon courses:

FAST
BEAUTIFUL
DOWNHILL

Downhill running, especially FAST downhill running, can subject runners to higher stresses on the legs due to eccentric force, which is a major cause of delayed-onset muscle soreness, or "DOMS."

But with proper form and proper training, runners can curb the effects of eccentric force, and in turn lessen the severity of DOMS.

Certified

REVEL Courses – All Certified!

REVEL's fast and beautiful courses are all certified by USA Track & Field as proper half-marathon and marathon distances. A common misconception among runners is that some courses are not “Boston certified” courses because of elevation gain or loss. The reality is that any marathon course, as long as it is certified as the correct distance by USATF, can be used for meeting Boston qualifying time standards. Likewise, all of REVEL’s half-marathon courses can be used for qualifying into races that accept half-marathon times for entry!

Certified

REVEL Marathons – All Top BQ% Rates

REVEL Rockies, Big Cottonwood, and Canyon City are all listed by marathonguide.com as top races for percentage of Boston Qualifying finishers in 2015. All three races had well over 20% of all finishers running BQs! REVEL has the only races in Utah and Colorado that broke the 20% mark in both 2014 and 2015. Year after year, REVEL is the place to go for FAST finishes and Boston-qualifying times.

Training Tip

Training Tip: D-L-S…The Rest Will Follow

“Drop your shoulders; Lower your hands; Swing your arms…and the rest will follow.” Whether in the middle of a tough training run or deep in the latter miles of a race when fatigued, runners tend to slip away from good, efficient running form. Their leg turnover slows, their shoulders and entire upper bodies get tight, and their overall form struggles more than strides freely. A quick fix is to remind yourself to “Drop your shoulders, Lower your hands, and Swing your arms.” Try it! Consciously drop your shoulders down away from your neck. Lower your hands to your waist instead of your chest. Swing your arms back and forth freely in a locomotion-type pattern instead of a short, clenched-fist “boxer” pose. You will feel yourself perking up and picking up the speed. Keep reminding yourself: “D-L-S,” and the rest will follow.

Team Highlight

Team

REVEL Canyon City is thrilled to welcome back the Pasadena Pacers! As the oldest running club in the San Gabriel Valley, Pasadena Pacers had 60+ members at the 2015 event. In addition, they manned two Aid Stations along the course and had many at the Finish Line cheering on runners as they completed their journey. The Pacers are looking forward to an even bigger team in 2016.

Runner Highlight

Runner

Meridith Ethington was registered for the 2015 REVEL Big Cottonwood Marathon and just 2 months before race day was diagnosed with breast cancer. Meridith started chemotherapy only 3 weeks prior to toeing the Start Line on Saturday, September 12. Due to the side effects of chemo Meridith was heartbroken and had to step down to the Half Marathon but vowed to return in 2016 to hopefully accomplish her BQ goal. Continuing her courageous fight, Meridith is now registered for the FULL Marathon. We cannot wait to see her cross the finish line of cancer and the Big Cottonwood Marathon.
