Steady Pacing with Mid-Race Challenges Derek Garcia from Simi Valley, CA, maintained a consistent pace in this year’s Mountains 2 Beach Half Marathon. His overall elapsed time was 1:57:17, completing the 13.1-mile course at an average pace of 8:57 min/mile. Notably, Derek’s splits were strong at the start, consistently under 9 minutes per mile, with significant performance at mile 4 at an 8:32 min/mile split. Derek held a competitive position throughout, placing 292nd in his gender and 43rd in the M25-29 division out of 1697 participants. While early splits were promising, a noticeable pacing decline occurred in the later miles, particularly after mile 11 with a pace of 9:27 min/mile. Focusing on maintaining early pace consistency in the later stages could bolster overall performance in future races. However, his effort and perseverance were commendable, contributing to a strong finish for the Conejo Valley Run Club.
